The Clallam County Rock Association rock show is held once a year in September to show what our club does. We have demonstrations of many of our different classes, faceting, cabochon making, silversmithing and wire wrapping. We like to encourage the students from the local schools to become involved in rock hounding as a hobby they and their families can pursue their whole lives.
We invite vendors to come and sell items related to lapidary skills, from raw materials to finished products. The vendors rent table space from the club to sell their merchandise from. Club members are also encouraged to rent table space if they wish to sell their creations.
We have demonstrations, games to win prizes of rocks, and displays of class projects. There is a raffle with great prizes, some made by our members, some donated by vendors and some donated by local merchants. We have a silent auction going all day long where people can bid on rocks, the winning bids are usually very nominal and the rocks available are great materials for projects or just collecting. We also have items for sale with the club benefitting from the sale.
The club sponsors this show to earn money to help support the club throughout the year and to let people know about the opportunities we have to offer. We have a shop with equipment to use at a nominal fee to work on projects. There are also instructors available to assist and answer questions. The show helps to defray the expense of running the shop and keeping the equipment running.
